I forbindelse med at Tekstlaboratoriet er en av gruppene i NORMS Nordic Centre of Excellence in Microcomparative Syntax, et av fire nordiske fremragende forskningssentere utvalgt av NOS-HS, har vi fått en postdoktor til å arbeide med skandinavisk dialektsyntaks. De andre tilknyttede universitetene har også fått hver sin postdoktor, og disse er med å gjøre senteret mer dynamisk og kunnskapsrikt. Ved Tekstlaboratoriet har vi fått gleden av å ha tyske Eva Engels, som kan mye om dialektene våre, men som fortsatt strever med å lære seg å snakke norsk i fritiden ved ILNs kurs i norsk som annetspråk. Et eget intervju med Eva kan finnes i ILNytt og hun har også vært i ILNytts Fem på gangen.

Her gir Eva en liten pekepinn om hva hun gjør i Oslo:
“I'm a postdoc of the Nordic Center of Excellence in Microcomparative Syntax (NORMS). My project examines the variation across Scandinavian languages as to the positions of negative phrases like ingenting or ingen bøker. Before I came to Norway, I did a postdoc at the University of Aarhus where I co-operated in the research project Object positions – Comparative syntax in a cross-theoretical perspective (principal investigators: Sten Vikner & Henrik Jørgensen). We mainly focused on similarities and differences between Scandinavian Object Shift (e.g. Norwegian: Han leste dem ikke 'He didn't read them') and Continental West Germanic Scrambling (e.g. German: Er hat die Bücher nicht gelesen 'He didn't read the books').
I was born in Berlin and grew up there. I studied at the Berlin Institute of Technology (TU Berlin), and did my PhD in general linguistics at the University of Potsdam in 2005, where I was a member of the Graduate School Economy and Complexity in Language (Potsdam University & Humboldt University, Berlin). My thesis was supervised by Gisbert Fanselow and investigates the positions of adverbs in an Optimality Theoretic framework. By the way, Potsdam is just around the corner from Berlin. I never planned to come to Scandinavia, but well, here I am und das ist auch gut so ...”
